Outdoor Recreation is #1
Do you enjoy hiking, biking, and other outdoor recreation in Maine? In a recent study conducted by the Department of Economic and Community Development, outdoor recreation was identified as the number one reason people come to Maine.
The Friends of Milo and Milo’s Economic Development Committee are pleased to announce that representatives from The Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) will be at the Milo Town Hall on Thursday, June 26th to present on their work with the Barnard Forest (and more), restoring guaranteed public access and increasing outdoor recreational opportunities. Please join us for this informative presentation. Light refreshments will be provided.

The Appalachian Mountain Club and the Conservation Fund are working to purchase and permanently protect nearly 29,000 acres known as the Barnard Forest. This forest is adjacent to AMC’s Maine Woods property in Piscataquis County, Maine and advances AMC’s Maine Woods Initiative (MWI), which seeks to conserve and protect a corridor of more than a million contiguous acres from Monson to Baxter State Park. The property will allow AMC to continue its work to conserve the entirety of the West Branch of the Pleasant River Watershed, improve climate resilience, and restore guaranteed public access.
